mexican food

My dad is in love wit mexican food so we eat at a mexican food place all the time. I love mexican food to. But when we go to the mexican place I always try to talk spanish to the people that take my order. I mess up sometimes. But I correct myself and they are nice and don't laugh at me. The best food there is the chicken enchiladas with the rice and refried beans.

Flan and Fried Ice Cream

One day when my cousin came up to visit from Florida we went out to eat at Los Aztecas. After finishing the meal and chips and salsa, we decided that we wanted to try flan. It looked good on the dessert menu, and was covered in carmel, chocolate and whipped cream. And so we ordered it and waited for it to come. Needless to say, it looked good when you first see it, but the taste and texture was disgusting. Josh and I took one bite from the flan and were both repulsed. The texture was thick and chunky and the taste was like rice pudding. Never again will I eat flan.

Another time I went out to eat with my grandma at Los Aztecas and decided that I wanted to try fried ice cream. We ordered the strawberry kind. At first when we got it we could barely stab into it and had to wait a couple minutes for it to soften up. After it did it was delicious. We ate as much as we could, but there was still a lot left. Fried ice cream is definitely my favorite Mexican dessert.

Ker Plunk

I was playing Ker Plunk with my sisters and it has been a while since I played last. So I looked for the directions but we lost them. I looked on the box and what do you know? I found spanish on it! On the front of the box it said, no dejes que las canicas caigan! I only knew three words in that sentence; no, que, and las. But later I figured out that it meant "Don't let the marbles fall." Then at the top of the box it said "requiere ensamble" and this one wasn't that hard to figure out... Assembly required. I turned the box over and more spanish was on there. Which suprised me, I knew that Spanish was in a lot of places but I would have never guessed it would be on a Ker Plunk game box. Almost everything on the box was translated from English to Spanish. My favorite saying on the box is "Escoge una varita y sacala!"....which means "Choose a stick and pull."

Get the paper!

I always go to Dubuque to see my brother on the weekends, but this time was just weird. Me and my family went to Wal-Mart. Well, while my mom was spending all day finding out which shampoo she was going to get, in the next aisle were some spanish-speaking people. I listened for about a minute and heard this, "Sacas el papeles!" "No tienen el papeles!" Right here I was like... what? Get the paper, they don't have the paper... Doesn't Wal-Mart always have paper? I thought about that until I got home, wondering what type of paper he was talking about. Eventually I just gave up. Their is obviously some other type of "papers".

Worktime spanish lesson.

I was in galena this summer. Working for my grandmother at her Grill. It was slow for a while and a customer wanted something for his allergies. I ran down to a little shop, and as soon as I walked in I found what I was looking for. But of course I noticed it was a Mexican shop. No english. At least I knew what he was saying. I think. :/

Flan

Flan is a very famous spanish desert, served everywhere in Spain. There are any different types of Flan, but the most popular kind is caramel. Flan can come in many different shapes and sizes. The ingredients used to make regular Flan is sugar, eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla. Flan takes about an hour and twenty minutes to make. I have been told that it is a very difficult desert to make. I would like to try Flan someday, possibly even make it myself. "Easy Flan Recipe." Mexican Food. Web. 04 Oct. 2011.
